About Sean

Scotland born but Nashville based singer-songwriter Sean C Kennedy is known for his revealing yet purposeful lyrics and genre-fluid musical style. Influenced by the likes of Prince, Bonnie Raitt, Coldplay, John Mayer, Amos Lee and others, Kennedy has explored different angles, from folk and country to poprock, throughout the years. His 2020 EP ‘Let Life Love You’ has a strong electronic pop feel to it, but never loses its emphasis on a meaningful message. Racking over 5 Million plays on Apple a music landing top playlists like “New Music Daily”, “Today at Apple” “Acoustic Chill” as an independent artists. 2021 Sean released new EP called “Big Heart” showing more of his singer-songwriter side and roots to Bonnie Raitt, Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, etc.

Fall of 2021 has sparked a new journey for Sean musically, always re creating himself and growing as a musician, Sean has tapped into his rock/indie roots with a new sound. ‘Being patient has been a beautiful learning curve when it comes to my art. I have to let myself grow before I release music again.’ That being said Sean’s first single “Hurts To See You Go” will be the front runner and introduction to a full album release in summer of 2023.

Background

Most of my younger days I played football. That was the dream, playing for Hibernian FC as a teenager. Around 18 years old I discovered a defect in my knee and was restricting me from full performance. A doctors consultation led to an operation. blood has stopped flowing throughout the bone in my right knee. The first operation was to drill holes to help blood through again. Somewhat a success then eventually my body had rejected a piece of bone. Long story short I was one of the first in the uk to have a stem cell bone transplant. They took cartilage from my knee and cloned the cells in a lab in Germany for 11 weeks. By that time I fell into depression with no idea what id be doing with my life. Exactly a year after the big op the x rays showed it turned back to bone and the doctors used my results in London to show the speed it grew at.

When I was on crutches during rehab which was 2 months of no weight on my right foot. I began to sing along with sings I grew up with. Music runs in the family but I was told I was tone def. Over time it just appeared my sister said. My dad had small success in 70s never forced me into music as I was good at football. When he found this out he was blown away. I then became a front man in a band in the most Forrest Gump of moments. That then led to writing and playing more guitar (2010) I played my first ever show. 4 years after I came to nashville and never looked back!

LOOKING FOR LOVE

The harder you try to make something work, or force it, more times than not it doesn’t work out. Looking for love is about losing the expectation of a person or a thing that you think you need when in fact there is nothing you need. Love happens for you and not to you, just the way life happens for you and not to you. Let it all flow...

DRIVE BY KISSER

Drive By Kisser is about my love for Tokyo, it’s culture and their love for life. It’s a long distant love relationship with myself & Tokyo but reflecting on anyone that travels any distance for love. You do that when you believe in a love worth investing in. The title inspired by my friend's dog Cash. PINK/RED/GREY was in my mind while I wrote this song.

WILD FOREVER

Sometimes you just want to leave the busy city and escape to the desert. Leaving LA for Joshua Tree and laying under the moon & stars with your favourite person. The freedom of driving out the city with windows down. ORANGE & FIRE SUNSET are the colours I felt in my mind while I wrote this song.

HASTY BOY

Hasty Boy is a season of change from summer to fall. Learning who I am, knowing that I can’t please everyone and that’s ok. Learning to let go just like the seasons do. Open to change and trusting the process in love, friendship and in life. RICH BLUE/GOLD/YELLOW was in my mind during this process

77 (ALBUM)

Sean’s debut album ‘77’ was released in October 2015 to critical acclaim. It was the result of years of writing, learning, collaborating and playing shows in Europe and the US and Sean was a part of almost everything on the record, from writing to mastering and artwork. The album has a strong Americana feel to it, with up-tempo country-pop songs but some slow blues as well.

PRESS QUOTES

Breeze of well-placed melody

“Sean and his band were supremely slick. His songs floated out into the ether, light, airy and flying high on a breeze of well-placed melody. (..) Watercolour Dreams (a co-write with Nik Kershaw) sounded fantastic given the full band treatment. Slow Me Down burned like a Memphis soul track straight off of the Stax record label. The Love You Owe stood out, a country rock duet-in-waiting. Sean has Bonnie Raitt in mind for the female part. That’s how high he’s setting his sights. And d’you know what? He just might get there.”

Prolific Artist

"Blessed with an enigmatic stage presence that captivates an audience, whether performing on stage at the 2012 London Olympics or playing an intimate acoustic show in the back room of his local bar, Sean’s connection with the audience is clear. His determination and unconditional love for great music has turned him into a prolific artist.”

(‘Carro’s interviews’ on music blog shoonycarro.wordpress.com – 2016)

Scottish John Mayer

“Kennedy delivers an emotional EP that takes you on this mellow melodic journey tugging on each heart string. (..) Sean pours his soul out to the world, exposing his full vulnerability to love and loving hard. Assuming all responsibility, in the most clever of ways, for the depths of this love. (..) But I tell ya, this Scottish John Mayer does an extra tug-of-war pull on your heart strings with that effortless falsetto. Lyrics, production, and vocals all merge together to create one of the most hypnotic, indulgent and well rounded love songs of 2020.”
